The new Knight Rider is a Ford GT500KR with Microsoft SYNC
This morning I read an interesting email sent to me from Velle Kolde, Senior Product Manager Automotive at Microsoft about a revived Knight Rider movie (cool - I remember the original with the Hoff-meister).
Velle talks about the new Knight Rider movie that is going to air soon and also about the Microsoft SYNC being developed with a lot of FORD motor vehicle. Another thing of interest is that SYNC will be advertised during the Super Bowl today.
"In the 80s, Knight Rider was a successful TV series (84 episodes) that featured an intelligent talking car, named KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) . Now, 20+ years later we have intelligent talking cars powered by Microsoft Auto. (However, we have yet to incorporate active camouflage and direct links to DOD satellites).
Next month, Knight Rider returns in a new made-for-TV movie. This is not remake, rather it is a continuation of the original series. The new KITT --- now a Knight Industries Three Thousand --- is a highly modified Mustang GT500KR. Co-starring with KITT are a Ford Edge, Fusion, and Focus. There will be heavy Sync sponsorship, including a giveaway of three Sync-equipped vehicles. Mark your calendars, and program your DVRs.", Velle Kolde, Senior Product Manager Automotive, Microsoft

Microsoft and Ford collaborate with Sync
Auto Tech, Microsoft, Mobile Technology
January 07, 2007
Rolling out in their Sunday Best during the North American International Auto Show are Ford and Microsoft with the Sync system. Looking to bring more media to users more often, well all be able to connect via in-dash USB ports with our media players of choice (Zune / iPod) and control them with buttons on the steering wheel or through voice-activation.
iPod and Zune users arent the only ones who get to have all the fun, as the new system born from the Microsoft / Ford collaboration also works with Bluetooth-enabled smartphones and PDAs. Even thumb drives are said to be getting a piece of the action.
Snatch Internet broadcasts and read text messages to you while you drive, drink coffee and thumb your BlackBerry / Treo.
Looking to please your inner-Michael Knight, Ford is planning to make Sync technology available, for less than a grand, starting with 12 models in 2008.
